“Grace Kelly<\/b>” is a song by British singer\u00a0Mika. It was released as the lead single from Mika’s debut studio album\u00a0Life in Cartoon Motion<\/i>\u00a0(2007) on the 8th January 2007. It was written by Mika alongside Jodi Marr, John Merchant and Dan Warner. The song was produced and mixed by\u00a0Greg Wells.<\/p>\n
The song entered the\u00a0UK Singles Chart\u00a0at number three and the\u00a0UK Official Download Chart\u00a0at number one. One week later, it jumped to the top of the UK Singles Chart on download sales alone, the second song to do so after\u00a0Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” the previous year. The track was number one on the\u00a0UK Singles Chart for five weeks, and ended 2007 as the year’s third biggest-selling single in that country.\u00a0In the US, “Grace Kelly” was made available for digital download on 16 January 2007. This song was also No. 89 on\u00a0MTV Asia<\/i>‘<\/span>s list of Top 100 Hits of 2007.\u00a0It was designed to be a mocking satire of musicians who try to reinvent themselves to be popular.<\/p>\n The song is titled after\u00a0Academy Award-winning American film and stage actress, and\u00a0Princess of Monaco,\u00a0Grace Kelly. The fragment of dialogue used in the song is from the film\u00a0The Country Girl<\/i>, which stars Kelly. Mika claims the song was inspired after a bad experience with a record company executive, in which he was told to be more like\u00a0Craig David.\u00a0The lyric “So I tried a little Freddie” is a reference to\u00a0Queen’s\u00a0Freddie Mercury, to whose singing voice Mika’s has been compared.\u00a0On at least one occasion, Mika confirmed that he used the main melody from\u00a0Figaro’s famous aria “Largo al factotum”, from the opera\u00a0The Barber of Seville<\/i>\u00a0by\u00a0Gioachino Rossini.\u00a0Mika performed the song at the\u00a0MTV Europe Music Awards 2007\u00a0in Munich and at the\u00a02008 BRIT Awards\u00a0at the\u00a0Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, where it was nominated for Best British Single, but lost to “Shine” by\u00a0Take That.\u00a0The song has sold over 630,000 copies in the UK, as stated by the\u00a0Official Charts Company.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" MIKA | Grace Kelly | 2007 “Grace Kelly” is a song by British singer\u00a0Mika.
